The SPF record (Sender Policy Framework) is a protocol used to combat spam and phishing attacks. It is a TXT record in the domain's DNS configuration that defines which mail servers you authorize to send e-mail messages on behalf of that domain.
How does the SPF record work?
When the mail server receives a message, it checks the SPF record of the sender's domain. If the IP address of the server that sent the message is not included in the SPF record, the message may be marked as SPAM or rejected.
Advantages of using SPF records:
- reduces the amount of SPAM messages in your inbox
- increases the reliability of your e-mail
- protects the domain from phishing attacks
How to modify an SPF record?
A standard SPF record is created in the domain's DNS configuration. You can change it as follows:
- Find the Zone Editor within the cPanel interface
- Filter the records so that only TXT records are shown
- The entry you are looking for under "Name" contains the domain name
- Under Record there is a record that starts with "v=spf1 ..."
- By clicking on "Edit" you can modify that record
